today is joey’s 4th birthday. its even spirit week at daycare and she got to dress up like Cinderella today. what a doll she is, we are so lucky to have her. everyone says it but it’s so true, they grow up so fast. (for some reason there are no pictures from her 2nd birthday! i'm sure my lovely mother in law has them so if she reads this i hope she'll send me some of them! what kind of mom is missing an entire birthday of pictures?!)
right now i am really inspired by music. we have been rocking out to a lot of older stuff, 70s rock, bluegrass, classic country; which for anyone that knows my husband and i, is really crazy! (yes, i used to have a 15 inch subwoofer in my pink hatchback escort i am not ashamed to admit it!)
one of our favorite movies is High Fidelity with John Cusack. we watch it over and over and always ask each other for different “top five” lists for days afterwards. i thought it would be fun to document a list for posterity in one of our scrapbooks.
the idea came to me while doodling in my sketchbook.
it really got me thinking about other projects i could make. i created a scrapbook page with NO pictures. yes, i said NO pictures, don’t be afraid.
its our top 5 songs to sing in the car with the windows down, as loud as we can. my daughter joey loves to sing with us, its fun to introduce her to different kinds of music.
And I made a music journal to keep by our computer for jotting down the next batch of songs we want to download. Usually my hubby writes them on backs of envelopes and scratch paper and they get lost. Now they will stay in their adorable new home.
products used: plain cardstock bazzill basics, patterned papers love, elsie, heidi swap foam stamps, k&company adhesive rinestones and rub on transfers, creative imaginiations felt sheet, apple barrel acrylic paint in carribean, ik success chipboard letters Madeline, ranger distressed stickles.
i love to doodle. i have my whole life. remember the 80s when we wore keds and those times before cool trapper keepers, when binders were plain? mine were detailed doodles. i’m a hearts and flowers girl, and still find things that say i heart matt on them (yes, matt is my hubby, and yes we have been together FOREVER!).
over the years i lost the instinct to really doodle. of course there was the occasional cube or daisy while talking to a customer on a sticky note but not the intense artwork of my younger years. i’m glad to say the best thing i did was buy a sketch book before i went on vacation this summer. i adore it. i sit on the couch at night with joey as close to me as she can. she watches and tells me she wants to be artist just like me. what is sweeter than that?
doodles get me started thinking creatively. one of my super crafty friends invited me to join in some inspirational fun this week and I pulled out my sketch book and got started right away. there is a whole crafty party this weekend at shim’s blog, that will feature me! (i’m so excited!).
my first page only too a half hour to make. for me scrapbooking should be easy, fun and fast. i work full time and have a 4 year old. while i do occassionally splurge on a new embellishment, i mostly use paper, markers, scissors and glue. for this layout i painted a border in cream acrylic paint, glued down my photo, doodled the title and border, glued on two embellishments and DONE. i don't ever want to feel pressured to make perfect pages. i want to make pages that capture this wonderful life i live.
products used: bazill basics paper, apple barrel acrylic paint in cream, sakura gelly roll pen white, martha stewart .07 pen black, colorbok chip board buttons.

I created this page the other night. I have to say I was inspired by the Celtic's green warm ups as my hubby was watching the game. I went right back to my craft room and pulled out all the green things that caught my eye.
The best part about this is that Joey calls dandelions "poopieheads." I'm positive she means poofy but we dare not correct her.
As you can see from the detail below I'm obsessed with tags lately, both ones I make myself and some from this adorable Etsy shop. I seem to put them on every page I make these days.
The lighting was terrible in these pictures (sorry, i'm still learning! I miss all the good light durning the day at my regular job.)
I had to make a scrapbook page for the play ground crisis that occurred on 5.4.08. I know you'll just continue to get hurt, and I honestly think I'm going to live in a constant state of panic as a mother from now on.
Journaling reads:
We’ve been going to the playgrounds frequently since the weather has been so wonderful. You have really amazed me at how fearless you are climbing on monkey bars, taking on the big slides and swinging by yourself. I think I am one of those paranoid moms because I’m always right there cringing, throwing my hands up around you to hold on. “Mommy let go of me!” you always say.
This particular warm Sunday afternoon we walked to the little playground and played on the slide. It was so fun, going down on our bellies and climbing around on the equipment. We went to go swing and as usual, you said, “Higher Mommy.” In theory, my “higher” isn’t very high at all, you are after all only two and half, but something went really wrong. You just let go and flipped backwards out of the swing and belly flopped on the ground.
I have never been more terrified in my life. I rushed and cradled you up in my arms. I’m so thankful that little playground had the recycled tire chips in all the play areas, I’m sure it had a lot to do with your minimal injuries. We bent all your joints and I checked out every area I could and your cute little face is all that was hurt! On the way home you even asked through the tears, “Mommy can we come back later and play?”
You are one tough cookie little girl, much tougher than me, I still cry when I just think about this! You just tell people that you “beefed it” like its no big deal.
The other day at the park Joey chased her Daddy back to the truck as we left, she stills runs so awkwardly that I couldn't stop laughing. I love how this picture came out, especially with their shadows.

You may not know this but our family is steeped in rich Jayhawk Tradition, wait perhaps I should call it Superstition! Every year March Madness is a HUGE deal. We buy new tshirts for the tournament every year, and if they loose we are not allowed to ever wear it again for gamedays. Those shirts become unlucky, and the Jayhawks losing is entirely those shirt's fault.
Until this year! I think we almost died of heart attacks several times. We were screaming and jumping around, and our sweet little girl slept through the 2nd half and OT! It was so amazing to finally win.
This year's shirts are being retired. We wore them every game and they did their part to help us win. An honorable mention goes out to the cute face stickers I wore for every game, with out them this victory may not have been possible.
Earlier this month I saw Keith Urban at Kansas City's new Sprint Center from the 17th row. Wow! What an experience it was. We took so many pictures, and they actually came out astoundlingly well. I wanted to capture that night with a scrapbook page using as many of the pictures as I could. Now when I see this page I instantly remember everything about the concert. It was a challenge to fit all of these photos on one page, but I love the end result.
I actually photocopied the lyrics from one of his CDs and glued them to the page to make my own patterned paper. The metallic hearts are the actual confetti that he used at the end of his show, I snatched them up and put them away knowing that they'd be great additions for this page!
He put on a great show, anyone who likes his music should see him in concert if they get the chance, and ladies, he is even hotter than you can imagine in real life!:)
